MANILA, Philippines — It’s been five days since the implementation of ‘no window hours’ in the number coding scheme.
Based on the observation of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), travel time has decreased by 15 minutes on major roads around Metro Manila.
“The policy is effective and it resulted awareness to the public,” said Goddess Hope Oliveros-Libiran, DOTr’s Public Information OIC.
Some motorists agree to a slight improvement in the traffic situation.
“The traffic decongested a little,” said bus driver Jeremiah Nerison.
“It’s okay. The traffic improved slightly. So far, it’s good,” motorist Philip David said.
A comparative guide analysis of Google Traffic from October 12 to 14 showed a slight traffic improvement in Metro Manila.
The implementation of the ‘no window hours’ is in effect until January next year.
If i-ACT finds the system beneficial to the traffic condition, the scheme may be permanently implemented.

Meanwhile, the DOTr is planning to propose the scrapping of low downpayment promos on the sale of vehicles.
One of the problems in Metro Manila is the fast growing number of vehicles on the road.
In 2010, there were 1.9 million registered vehicles in Metro Manila and it ballooned to 2.5 million in 2015
“Scrapping of the low downpayment, it might go higher of prohibit that kind of promo. But what I’ve said, it’s still only a plan and the department is still studying it,” Libiran said.
The Transportation Department will meet with the Department of Trade and Industry to formulate a regulation concerning the low downpayment promo in the sale of brand new vehicles. — Mon Jocson | UNTV News & Rescue
